On a bright Sunday at the start of June, dedicated people turn out to help construct what will become a week long beer festival. Why? Well there are many reasons, but it all comes down to the fact that they all want you to have the best experience possible. There are truckloads of bars, stillage, and casks to be carried into the vast hall. Everything is done by hand, barring the occasional whack with a mallet. The center of the hall slowly builds into an array of silver casks, ready to be tapped. Surrounded By Bars..... Next come the wooden bars, assembled in true CAMRA kit form - nothing fits anything else! The Coolers...... The cooling jackets are placed over the barrels, after all the pipe work is connected. (NOTE – Jules, make sure everything is connected up before switching it on, unless you want another cold shower next year!). And finally, we can all stand around, patting ourselves on the back for a job well done - at least the first day, anyway. As a reward to the workers, and to get our Branch Members in the mood, we traditionally have a members social that evening. Whilst not that many of the beers will actually be ready, there’s always enough to keep us happy! Read on and find out how the trade session went.... |
