Colchester 40/40

Not an official CycAle ride but an annual ride organised by the CTC. It finishes at pub so it's CycAleish. We usually do the 40 mile version, this year's route is a reprise of the route via Hadleigh so fondly remembered by Jeff's lip. Meet at the ride's starting point.

Organiser, CTC's Brian Penny says:

"With my apologies for the long time in preparation, I attach the route sheets for the Colchester 40/40 on Sunday 11th August.

The BIG news is that the start will NOT be outside the Alma PH this year. I want to take advantage of a refurbished venue "Bungalow Diner" (www.bungalowdiner.co.uk) on the B1408 road off the A12 roundabout towards Copford Green. This diner opened just two weeks ago and is ideally equipped for our needs having plenty of car parking space and will open for anybody who wants breakfast before the event properly starts at 9.30. I have advised the staff of the event.

As usual there are two distances. The 40 mile route is a repeat of that used a couple of years ago with coffee at The Coffee Tavern (formerly Crabtrees) in Hadleigh, Suffolk. The 40km route is similar to the 40 miles up until Boxford where there's a stop at the Boxford Fleece Tea rooms. Indeed those doing the 40 miles event could stop at both venues.

The event finish will continue to be at The Alma pub as per previous years.

In response to a request from the South East Group secretary I will not put a formal time limit on the event although I might not be there if the clock ticks past 4.00.
