Colchester CAMRA Cycle Tours 2010

Tour 7 - Whitehorse, Edwardstone

Our next tour is on Saturday 14 August and will set off from the car park of the Bricklayers at 10am

No trains will now be involved and the new destination will be the Whitehorse Edwardstone, with a few other stops thrown in & probably ending at the the Thatchers Arms.

If you need more details or would like to join us please speak to Robin Taverner or Nigel Mullender or alternatively

Future tours planned include:

Saturday 14 August - From Colchester to the Whitehorse Edwardstone

Sunday 19 September. - Cycling out of Braintree, exploring the area south of the A120. Part of this route will be along National Cycle Route 16 which being an old railway line has a gravelled surface. This might be an uncomfortable ride if you have ultra skinny tyres on your bike - you have been warned! More details to follow.

Friday 29/Saturday 30 October – Norwich Beer Festival
Our two day cycle ride to Norwich Beer Festival on Friday 29 and Saturday 30 October. The route takes us via National Cycle Route 1 and is about 75 miles from Colchester to Beccles on Day 1 and 25 miles from Beccles to Norwich on Day 2.
Cost of train tickets as Tour 7, accommodation likely to be in the region of £30-£35. We are now booking accommodation for this tour so please let us know as soon as possible if you are going

Locations for tours have not been included for all dates yet as some will use trains for part of the journey. Once we have worked out the engineering works (if that is at all possible!!) then more details will appear on the website.

Other routes could include tours out from Norwich, Diss, Ingatestone, Braintree, London, Chelmsford and Manningtree and the National Cycle Route to Cambridge. We might not be able to fit them all in this year, but there’s no harm in trying!

Tour 2

Another successful tour completed and a record number of riders as we were joined by two new riders, Bob and Colin.
In dry and bright conditions we made our first stop bang on opening time at the Cross Inn, Great Bromley, where we received an unexpected treat.

Matt who normally brings along some rather delicious cakes - for himself - rather unselfishly (well, with a bit of ungentlemanly persuasion) brought supplies for everyone. A promising start polished off with an excellent Old Forge Bitter from Sticklegs.

It was then onto the Haywain at Little Bromley for a well earned bite to eat where we were joined by Keith (on four wheels!) who gave us a splendid reading from the Book of Excuses as to why he was unable to cycle.

After a filling meal - it was so filling, custard monster Robin, turned down the offer of pudding! - we made our way back to Colchester via the White Hart Weeley, Royal Fusilier Aingers Green and Greyhound at Wivenhoe. Photos

Tour 1

Tour 1 saw us head to Chelmsford Beer Festival. The unseasonably good weather and temperatures not starting with a zero made for a pleasant journey. The lung busting Market Hill in Maldon delayed us slightly as did the stop in the Blue Boar for a well earned pint afterwards.
Otherwise the journey was relatively uneventful barring Jamie's 'look no brakes' approach to cycling which was quickly remedied by our on site engineer Matt.
