Colchester CAMRA Young Members Colchester Pub Crawl

Sunday 8th June, 2008

It was a warm sunny day as I climbed mount north (North Hill) to reach the meeting place for my 3rd CAMRA Young Members outing. I arrived 5 minutes early at the Hole in the Wall, so brought myself a half of Summer Lightening whilst I waited for the mass's to turn up ( had to be careful.... 5 more pubs to visit!).

After looking around, there was no one whom I recognised, so I plonked myself down on a chair and waited .... I received a phone call from Josie saying that the buses were running late ( what!!! british transport not running on time!! ), she would meet me in 20 minutes .... I also had a phone call from the Halstead crew ( i.e.. Emma & Adam) who would meet us in the next pub .... Dave was also going to meet us further down the road .... Therefore the hordes of new CAMRA Young members that were eagerly anticipated were probably hosting BBQs .... Still I managed to amuse myself for the next 20 minutes by reading '101 ways to know if your a nurse' until my sister turned up and also Robin who popped into the pub for a swift pint on his way home from a pleasant bike ride .... The beer choice was good, with Deuchers IPA, Lemonale, Castle Eden, Summer Lightning, and something else that escapes me now, think it might have been Bombardier Gold or something similar.

More or less on time we meandered down to the Stockwell Arms where we met the Halstead contingent, then we moved on to the Foresters and picked up a 'Dave', we sat outside and enjoyed the sun, before making our way to the Rose & Crown .... Saving ourselves for the Odd One Out, even Adam only had a half!!!! We then undertook our final crawl to the Odd One Out. We were slightly amused by a double decca bus stuck on a mini Round-About and managed to capture this on Camera.

The OOO as usual was far from disappointing. A great beer range, and a free BBQ with donations going to Charity. Our departure from here was delayed slightly by the introduction of a lovely Dark Beer .... then it was back in time for the football, not to watch England though obviously!

Thanks to everyone who came along, hope you can make the next young members trip!
